In the season premiere of Gossip Girl’s fourth season, we are treated to something new: Blair and Serena in Paris and not New York. They have spent the summer there after they were both left lonely and somewhat depressed - especially on B’s side. They enjoyed their summer using retail therapy away from everything but each other but that doesn’t necessarily mean Blair is over Chuck. Although she has to get over the fact that Chuck and Jenny had sex in their time of loneliness and despair. Back in New York, Eleanor uses Lily’s apartment for the Fashion’s Night Out dinner. While Dan continues to keep his secret love child with Georgina except for Nate who is the only one who knows. That is until Vanessa shows up at the Humphrey doorstep. Chuck is still missing in action while Lily is stuck to figure out what happened to him. Lily enlists the help of S to help with Chuck who just found out she was accepted to Columbia, the same school B has transfered to for the next semester who is more than happy to stop competing with Serena since she’s under the impression that S is headed to Brown in Providence, Rhode Island. While Nate is gallivanting with Chuck’s black book, we meet a new character to the mix, Juliet Sharp who has quite the sharp tongue. In Paris whole in the museum adoring Manet, she meets a man who seems to love everything about her, the perfect man for her. Little does she know that this man is from the famous Grimaldi family - the royal family of Monaco, making him the most perfect man for her ever. Back in Brooklyn, we see Georgina scheming again - but this time in Russian. Vanessa jokes about not even wanting to hear about Georgina’s “george-ina” and that “you can’t trust what comes out of her mouth, let alone… anywhere else.” Blair and Serena meet up with the Grimaldi man who turns out to be the driver of the Grimaldi family, leaving B in the shadow of S once again. Lily finds Chuck’s itinerary but Rufus isn’t one to care about him after what he did to Jenny. We realize that Juliet is really Eleanor’s assistant on the Fashion’s Night Out event. At S and B’s dinner out, Blair tries to sabotage the night but is saved by the phone call from her mother telling her about Serena’s.decision to attend Columbia. Nate sees Juliet at the van der Woodsen’s apartment and is surprised to find out that she’s working the event. Georgina shows up at the van der Woodsen’s to surprise everyone about their love child. She succeeds in the surprise before Dan gets to the apartment. Rufus is clearly not convinced of the fact that Dan is not the father of Georgina’s baby bit much to the dismay of everyone involved, Georgina has a positive paternity test which is undoubtedly what she was scheming for earlier. erena attempts to comfort Blair but fails in doing so considering Blair’s scorn past. Blair isn’t convinced and pushes Serena into the fountain before returning to her dinner with the Frenchmen. Dan seems to do the right thing like he always does and signs the birth certificate even though we all know it’s not what happened and that Georgina is even more of a psycho. Serena returns to dinner soaking wet and Blair’s sabotage came back to bite her in the ass, where she finds out that the Grimaldi man is a royal and was switching roles with his driver just in case Blair was out for his title and not his personality and her night is ruined. G leaves for the spa with all of her bags and he passport, clearly leaving the child alone with his legal paternal guardian. Blair is upset with herself for ruining her date and hurting Serena once again but she finally admits that she has been scorn and hates being hurt all the time. Serena and Blair make up and decide to tackle Columbia together and send out a Gossip Girl tip about their potential monarchy over the school. Nate decides to give up chasing the girls from Chuck’s black book and pursues things with Juliet. He admits that Serena had hurt him and he was looking for some kind of happiness through having sex with all these women. Juliet suggests talking about it over coffee and leaves her apartment. On her way out we see her computer open with Gossip Girl up. On the corkboard above her desk she has all kinds of information: articles, pictures, facts, statements, etc. about the famed Upper East Siders. Lily and Rufus get a call from France stating that a body washed up in Paris that had been shot that was carrying identification stating he was Charles Bass. We then see that Chuck is completely fine and goes by the name Henry.
So who is this mysterious Juliet girl? We don’t know. The show definitely made it seem like Juliet is Gossip Girl, but Stephanie Savage has since come out in a statement saying that Juliet Sharp is not Gossip Girl. So that leaves one thing: crazed stalker. We do find it strange that in several scenes, Juliet was seen wearing the same key-shaped pendant that the Blairs soon-to-be Columbia minions were wearing late in the third season. And if Juliet is working for Eleanor Waldorf, does she have it out for Blair? We’ll just have to wait and find out.
